“Akiko Sakura©”, was inspired by my visit to Japan last year, she is a theatrical Japanese Geisha figure depicting the beautiful culture that Japan has to offer. She is a cloth, wire armature body and head is sculpted from Fimo. Her costume is vintage kimono fabric and hand beaded to enhance the overall look. She wears the traditional “juban” undergarment, “obi” waist sash, “geta” clogs, and kimono. She is kneeling on a traditional “tatami” mat and complimented with a handmade “shoji” screen. Her hair ornament is a vintage hair pin made from the “King Fisher” bird feathers accented with ornamental handmade hair pins.

This is a one-of-a-kind hand made figurative piece measuring 18” x 30”
Approximate time involved 400 hours

Akiko Sakura© won 2nd place in the CDAA Conference, April 2004
